week one ♡ saturday ♡ nino
[it's not like any of them are really doing okay after all of that.
akira's probably the worst off of them all, all things considered. losing haru yesterday, the mess of a trial—akira, who is normally unflappable, lost his composure more than once.
it's not like him at all.
and he knows it, of course. so once all is said and done, and he's more than aware of it. things are only going to get worse, and he needs to get his head on straight so he can do what he's supposed to—support other people in need. he's gotten far too much attention from others.
the first step to that, of course, is to clear his head.
so it's to the beach he goes. maybe it should be expected that others would mill about at a time like this, but he doesn't expect to see someone else doing the same—but akira recognizes that fluff of green hair and petite figure.]
...Nino?

...Nino?

It all hurts so much, but all she can really do is clutch the locket in her hands and stare at the picture inside, as if trying to sear it into her memory.
Still...when she hears that voice, she jumps in surprise, eyes widening.]
Oh... Akira!
[She fumbles, manages to drop the locket in the sand, and flutters her hands around uselessly for a moment, but what she settles on is--]
Are...are you okay?
no subject
and for his part, he'll nod and offer a weak smile.]
I'm fine.
[how many times will he say that he's fine when he's really not? stayed tuned!]
How are you holding up? [he's still wary about the fact that she broke the rules and voted for herself, but he's not sure there's much to be said about that quite yet.
he'll get there.]
no subject
And then.
Brush off her skirt, embarrassed.
A-ahem.]
Um... I'm okay.
[You now, as okay as anyone can be after their boyfriend chewed them out for a dumb self-sacrificial move.]
But... are you sure, Akira? I... I'm really worried about you!
no subject
[protagonist king of deflections, this one.]
A lot happened today. [he's looking to her with concern more for... her? definitely more for nino than himself.
we're coping in healthy ways today.]
no subject
Mm... it did.
[and it was ALL SHITTY.]
We tried our best, but... [It still wasn't enough. It was all rigged against them.]
no subject
[she doesn't have to say it. akira knows better than anyone else that so much of his everything today had been tied to yato.
it's hard.]
It was stupid to break their rules.
[don't worry nino, he's not scolding.]
...I wish I had done the same. [akira???] You stuck to what you believed in. I think I lost sight of that today.
[that he would never vote to put a person to death just because some asshole said "hey, those are the rules."
of course, he's going to learn that the rules have consequences eventually, so it's probably wise he went against his own creed for once but.
yeah, it doesn't feel good.]
no subject
She pauses for a moment, considering, and then...she just plops onto the sand right where she is. And kind of pats the sand next to her...? Sit with her, Akira.
Either way, whether he does or not, she just smiles up at him--a little weakly, but sincerely.]
I still don't know if it was a good thing to do. I scared Jaffar a lot...and I think it upset a lot of people.
[That's not what she wanted, of course.]
But...I don't think it was wrong, either. What I did, or...what you did either.
[Weren't they just doing their absolute best?]
Trying to find justice...that's not wrong. [What's wrong is that it was stacked against them from the start.]
no subject
This isn't justice. [he says, firmly. he closes his eyes before drawing his knees up to his chest and resting his chin.
it's a bit of a childish pose for someone who seems to be always taking leads in his own subtle way, but he's having a moment here.]
Blindly guessing to send someone to their death. Playing into their hands when they framed someone— [akira hisses quietly to himself.]
I should have seen through it. I knew better.
[but.]
I wanted to be right, for Haru's sake.
no subject
Well.
She knew she wanted justice when it did.
She experienced it for herself.]
...You wanted to for her. I think...that's understandable. That's not wrong.
[What Akira wanted wasn't wrong.]
Akira... we're still here. So I think... I think we can still find a way to get her justice.
[They just have to keep surviving until they can.]
no subject
[his eyes open, gaze focused ahead of them—narrow and sharp. his tone is definitely less gentle and more authoritative tone.]
They did this to her. To all of us. [to him, because the way that murder was framed was actual literal bullshit.]
no subject
[She sure won't deny it? It's pretty obvious that he's right.]
I... think that they'll keep doing this if we don't find a way to stop them.
no subject
[everything so far has proven that. especially the things nino doesn't know yet. the chiefs have already made haru a target to set an example and incentivize akira so.
there's that.]
That's why we need to find a way, as soon as we can.
no subject
We will. Together... I think that we can all find it! We have to...
Akira, um--
[A beat, and:]
I think you're really strong. And smart, and... I think a lot of people will be counting on you.
So...please take care of yourself.
no subject
[that people will be counting on him. he's not sure, so there's a bit of reluctance because he knows he's been the one relying on others.
he needs to pick himself up and do better with that though, doesn't he? get back to form.]
I'll take care of myself. But... you have to, too. [a lot of people care about her already. he knows that—and there's jaffar, of course.]
no subject
[It's a little too late for that, but you know. She'll do her best.]
I'll take care of myself so that I can take care of you! [Oh?] I know you'll be trying hard for everyone else, so someone has to make sure you're okay too!
no subject
You don't have to take care of me, Nino. It's alright. You should take care of Jaffar.
[he can't handle people wanting to take care of him so much.]
no subject
[Duh.]
And... I want to!
no subject
[she's a lot to deal with, but he knows her intentions are good. so... he'll humor her a little.]
Maybe we'll just have to call it even and take care of each other, then.
no subject
[She seems happy with it? So there's that.]
It's a deal! We'll take care of each other, then.
no subject
[she's too sweet to disagree with, anyway. he'll still... probably do the brunt of the work here. he can take care of himself, probably.]
